In 1846 in the London “Atheneum” magazine, William John Thoms applied the term Folklore for the first time in articles devoted to folk culture to mean knowledge of the nation (folk – nation, lore – knowledge). Could Thoms have predicted what folklore in the 21st century would look like? Probably not. If he had heard international hybrids performed by Kapela ze Wsi Warszawa, he would have fallen off his chair.
Folk music presented by the ensemble has long ceased to appeal to one place and one culture. It raises ethnic music to a new global level (World Music?). The musicians often describe their music as "Mazovian folk", which in the concert will probably find its reflection in the presence of virtuosos from Mazovia. Carniacy and Bandysionki are bands that operate in Kurpiowszczyzna on an everyday basis. Local musical contexts have long been used by Kapela ze Wsi Warszawa to establish broader musical relationships. This is proven on the album "Nord", which the band's musicians describe as “ a meeting of people from seemingly distant worlds."
